1) My fire alarm panel is beeping, what do I do?
Generically speaking, when the local fire alarm panel is making a "beeping" sound, this is an indication that an off normal condition exists on the system. To silence this sound, find the pushbutton labeled "trouble silence" or "local silence" and push one time. Additionally, some panels have an "acknowledge" button that requires you to push to review all of the off normal conditions before the sound will silence. Reference your system owner's manual to find the exact description of this procedure for your particular system. If you do not have an owner's manual, contact us and we can provide one to you for most systems.
2) My fire alarm panel is beeping everyday, what is causing this?
The fire alarm panel has a feature that "resounds" the "beeping" sound every twenty-four (24) hours if the off normal condition still exists. Think of it as a reminder to contact us to come out and correct the off normal condition. Some older models of fire alarm system do not have this feature.
3) What are some of the common off normal conditions that I will experience?
Our experience is that two of the most common off normal conditions are power failure and phone line troubles.
A power failure trouble is self explanatory in its cause but you may experience that once power comes back on there is a delay in restoral of this condition due to the battery recharging. Once the battery fully recharges the off normal condition usually clears.
Be aware that a phone line trouble condition could mean that your system is not automatically contacting the fire department if you have a fire alarm condition. We suggest that it is always a good practice to call 911 even if you believe the fire alarm panel is automatically reporting the fire alarm condition. For a phone line trouble suffice it to say that if the panel does not detect a dial tone for an extended amount of time it will cause an off normal condition. There are myriad causes that can cause a lack of dial tone within the public phone system network or your internal phone cabling system and to detail all of them in this forum would be an extensive exercise.
